VA Claims Series VA disability claims help for veterans

About Dennis Lain

Dennis Lain is a United States Marine Corps veteran who served from 1973 to 1976. After his service, he spent many years, like many veterans, not fully understanding how the VA disability system worked or what medical documentation would eventually matter later in life. When he finally entered the VA healthcare system decades after discharge, he experienced firsthand how confusing the process can feelĀ  not because veterans lack valid conditions, but because the system relies on medical documentation, terminology, and procedures most veterans were never taught while serving. The VA Claims Series was created to reduce that confusion.

Dennis writes in plain language to explain how the VA evaluates medical conditions, what different letters and exams mean, and why certain information appears in a claim file. His focus is educational: helping veterans understand the process so they can communicate clearly with their healthcare providers and accredited representatives. He does not provide legal advice, medical advice, or claims representation. The books and website are educational resources only. Veterans seeking assistance with a specific claim or appeal should contact an accredited Veterans Service Organization (VSO), VA-accredited agent, or VA-accredited attorney. His goal is simpleĀ  when veterans understand what the VA is trying to determine, the system becomes less intimidating and the experience becomes easier to navigate.
